This course addresses the challenges associated with dental implant placement in the maxillary posterior edentulous region, such as sinus cavity pneumatization and thin bone patterns due to resorption. The course discusses various techniques to overcome these issues, including sinus grafting procedures, guided bone regeneration techniques/materials, and ridge expansion/splitting. The course also focuses on bone grafting procedures involving the maxillary sinus, including internal or external augmentation, and new surgical techniques and materials.
The course aims to provide theoretical background and step-by-step surgical guidelines using state-of-the-art grafting materials, instrumentation, and growth factors.
For the posterior maxilla, dental implant reconstruction for advanced alveolar ridge atrophy has become possible through bone grafting procedures involving the maxillary sinus. This procedure involves augmentation of either the internal or the external aspects of the sinus, or both. With the advent of new surgical techniques and materials, sinus augmentation has become a predictable and often minimally invasive treatment. The sinus portion of this presentation will focus on the classic lateral approach as well as the more modern internal or crestal approach using osseodensification, neurosurgical and piezoelectric technologies.
The purpose of this course is to give the theoretical background for these procedures as well as the step-by-step surgical guidelines using state-of-the-art grafting materials, instrumentation and utilization of growth factors.
⚪ Diagnosis and treatment plan for the rehabilitation of the posterior maxilla
⚪ Evaluate the surgical approaches and techniques for sinus lift
and horizontal augmentation of posterior maxila
⚪ Comprehend different grafting materials for guided bone regeneration
⚪ Comprehend the use of advanced surgical instrumentation such as
Piezosurgery & Crestal/Lateral Sinus Drill kits for sinus access
Osseodedification :Step-by-step protocol for internal signs lift
⚪ Armamentarium needed to perform these procedures, surgical kits
for bone and sinus as well as expansion drills
⚪ Learn how to utilize autologous growth factors
⚪ Complications on maxillary sinus lift

Dr. Luis Bessa is a graduate of ISCS-N and pursued further education in oral and maxillofacial surgery at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro. With a background in hospital settings, he possesses a comprehensive understanding of general health and the holistic aspects of the body. Demonstrating a fervor for education, Dr. Bessa has served as a speaker in numerous international conferences and led the Maxillofacial Surgery course at the University Fernando Pessoa. Currently, he holds the position of an invited professor in several postgraduate programs on implantology at Portuguese and foreign universities. Dr. Bessa is the proprietor of NORTH CLINIC and the educational initiative NORTH EDUCATION. His professional focus centers on minimal invasive ridge reconstruction using autologous tissues and high-end aesthetic dentistry. He places a strong emphasis on a biological approach and effective management of the aesthetic zone.
